This workshop offers strategies for developing students' confidence and understanding of number concepts, using manipulatives and models. Teachers will explore a range of research-based pedagogies and strategies to support all students, including students with disability and those who will benefit from extra scaffolding for success.
Who should attend
Early years teachers (Prep-Year 2)
Teachers of students with disability
This numeracy workshop will explore research-based approaches to build students' confidence in number, by:
unpacking what is involved in having a well-developed number sense
analysing relevant Australian Curriculum: Mathematics
demonstrating research-based ways to build flexibility with numbers
modelling problem-solving skills using authentic contexts
exploring practical activities to promote understanding and reasoning.
Participants have the opportunity to:
reflect on their current teaching of number
develop a 'toolkit' of teaching strategies, hands-on activities and resources aimed at developing students' confidence and proficiency.
