CAIRN PD – Feeling boxed in with Andrew King

Come and learn how to teach engineering in the early years using cardboard boxes! We will discuss the Engineering Design Process and consider some basic engineering construction principles – with hands-on examples. We will then apply what we have discussed and considered as we create with hands-on examples. Cardboard is a fantastic engineering material for young children to work with!

PRESENTER BIOGRAPHY:

Andrew is an engineer and teacher from Brisbane. With illustrator Benjamin Johnston, Andrew has created the ‘Engibear’ picture book series including three books: ‘Engibear’s Dream’, ‘Engibear’s bridge’ and ‘Engilina’s train’. The books are designed to introduce children to engineering through friendly characters and story. Through examples and accompanying activities they are designed to encourage children to try engineering -to ‘Dream, Design and Develop’ –  Andrew’s latest project, with musician and teacher Sue Lewin is an activity book and CD for educators, parents and children which melds engineering and music: moving from STEM to STEAM, a concept about which both are passionate.
